CSA #4

CS0444

CSA #4 UNUSED Stone 2 Block of 4 with all 4 margins but just a little close at the upper left corner and an intense dark blue shade. Plated as Pos 1, 2, 11, 12. Much OG remains but is a bit toned with age as is expected. One light hinge mark also present. Very attractive block. Blocks of the lithographed stamps are difficult to find.
$700.00
CS0446

CSA #4 USED Stone 2 (two singles) tied to small piece and to each other by two strikes of the Richmond, Va CDS 9 JUL 1862. Margins a bit close in a few spots and very minor margin faults on the stamps. Very attractive piece.
$200.00
CS0499

CSA #4 USED Stone 2 Horz Pair with three good margins but the margin on the right cuts into the design. Excellent strike of the rarely seen RED Montgomery, Ala CDS 2 JAN 1863. Left stamp has a vertical crease which is reinforced from the back at the top with a tiny piece of archival tape. This also may be concealing a small repaired tear. Also has small thins. Still a neat and attractive appearing pair despite the faults with a scarce CDS.
$350.00
CS04/104

CSA #4 USED Stone 2 Horz Pair Light Milky Blue 4-Margin (just a little close at upper right) with a neat but usual weak strike of the Aiken SC CDS 14 AUG (1862). Stamps also cancelled with 2 strikes of a framed 7-bar Grid. Aiken SC was not known to have used a grid, and these grids are most consistent with the receiving grids used at Winnsboro NC. Very Fine.
$375.00
CS04/107

CSA #4 USED Stone 2 Horz Pair (margin just barely touches the design at the bottom of the left stamp) tied to small piece by the Pocotagligo SC CDS (date not apparent). Two small areas of gum toning on the right stamp which do not detract. Plated as Pos 17-18. Very nice pair.
$275.00
CS04/119

CSA #4 UNUSED Stone 2 Block of 4 (4-Margin with a right sheet margin Plated as Pos 19, 20, 29, 30) Original Gum, Hinge Remnants, and Thins. Extremely attractive block in a very nice dark blue color.
$600.00
CS04/156

CSA #4 Stone 2 USED (4-Margin with just a little part of the adjacent stamp visible on the right) with a neat strike of the Little Rock, Ark small double circle CDS (date not apparent). Just a little very light toning, but otherwise a Very Fine stamp showing Arkansas usage.
$325.00
CS04/157

CSA #4a Stone 2 UNUSED Block of 4 (4-Margin and a very dark blue color Plated as Positions 3-4, 13-14). Part OG, few tiny thins, and with the usual light gum toning seen with the stone lithograph stamps. Still a Very Fine appearing block.
$600.00
CS04/164

CSA #4 UNUSED Stone 2 Cross Gutter Block of 4 OG NH 4- Margin with the wide Vert Gutter and the narrow Horz Gutter and plated as Positions 50, 41, 10, 1. Excellent deep blue color. Expected gum toning from the full original gum which shows through just a bit at the upper left of no consequence. A rare and spectacular showpiece.
$2,000.00
CS04/168

CSA #4 Stone 3 Vert Pair USED (4-Margin) with two neat strikes of the Mobile, Ala CDS 25 AUG 1862. The stamps exhibit a somewhat dry printing and have multiple small short transfers seen on both stamps. The short transfers make an accurate plating next to impossible, but I believe the stamps are most likely Positions 9 and 19 Very Fine.
$500.00
CS04/169

CSA #4 Stone 2 Horz Block of 8 UNUSED (2 rows of 4) (4-Margin with upper sheet margin and plated as Pos 7-10, 17-20) No Gum. Block has a 1985 PF Certificate which states there is a vertical crease in the margin between the middle pairs and lightly toned. The crease is so minor that I am not sure it is really there, and the toning is also extremely minor and not particularly noticeable. Excellent color and a large multiple of exceptional quality.
$2,000.00
CS04/173

CSA #4 Stone 3 Horz Pair UNUSED (4-Margin) Plated as Positions 31-32 with full OG and LH Very Fine.
$1,500.00
CS04/183

CSA #4 Stone 2 Horz Pair Plated as Positions 42-43 (92-93) UNUSED (4-Margin with lower sheet margin) Full OG. Prominent large random printing flaws apparent. Pencil plating notation on reverse. Very Fine.
$375.00
CS04/195

CSA #4 Horz Pair Stone 2 Plated as Positions 19-20 UNUSED (4-Margin with a small right sheet margin) No Gum Very Fine.
$300.00
CS04/196

CSA #4 Stone 2 Plated as Position 2 USED (margin just barely touches at the top center) neat “-ville” face free town CDS not otherwise identified.
$125.00
CS04/198

CSA #4 Stone 2 (not plated) USED (4-Margin) with the BLUE Lynchburg, Va CDS 29 MAY. Tiny hinge thin but otherwise a Very Fine appearance.
$100.00
CS04/200

CSA #4 Stone 3 Block of 4 UNUSED (4-Margin). The lower left stamp shows the very prominent Leaking “N” stone variety which positively identifies the stamp as Stone 3 Position 1. The block therefore shows the horizontal gutter as it straddles the upper and lower transfers and plates as Stone 3 Positions 41-42, 1-2. Part OG, Hinged, few creases seen from the back, and two small pinholes. Still a very scarce item and a Very Fine Appearance despite the faults.
$2,500.00
CS04/201

CSA #4 Stone 2 Block of 4 UNUSED (4-Margin with a Left Sheet Margin). The lower left stamp shows the prominent Spur on the Left Upper Scroll from Position 21. Block therefore plates as Stone 2 Positions 11-12, 21-22. Top two stamps hinged and much OG remains. But as is usual the remaining gum is very heavy and very unevenly applied with the usual toning and cracking but does not affect an overall Very Fine appearance.
$1,000.00
CS04/202

CSA #4 Stone 2 Block of 4 UNUSED Plated as Positions 2-3, 12-13 (4-Margin) No Gum Very Fine.
$750.00
CS04/203

CSA #4 Stone 2 Vertical Pair UNUSED Plated as positions 13, 23 (4-Margin but close at the bottom) with OG but both stamps with thins which do not detract from the overall appearance.
$250.00
CS04/206

CSA #4 Stone 2 Horz Pair USED (margin just into the design on along the right) with the Winchester, Va large single rim CDS 9 OCT. The left stamp in the pair plates as Stone 2 Pos 19. But the stamp to the right is clearly not Stone 2 Pos 20 and is registered higher than the adjacent stamp with a very distinct doubling of the design seen along the lower edge. The right stamp clearly plates to Stone 2 Pos 48. What this pair represents, therefore, is a Misplaced Transfer with Pos 48 entered over Pos 20. This is currently an unlisted misplaced transfer. Except for the margin at the right, the pair is sound with no defects and is a very nice and scarce specialty position piece.
$2,500.00
CS04/207

CSA #4 Stone 2 Horz Pair USED Plated as Pos 21-22 with the prominent Spur on the Left Upper Scroll (4-Margin) with a neat strike of the Richmond, Va CDS (date not fully apparent). Just a little edge gum toning at the upper right, otherwise Very Fine.
$425.00
CS04/208

CSA #4 which appears to be Stone 3 but cannot be accurately plated USED (margins tight on all four sides) tied to small piece by the Richmond, Va CDS Powell Type 6e 2 MAY 1863.
$125.00
CS04/212
4/6/2008
CSA #4a Stone 3 but not plated USED (4-Margin Dark Blue but close at the bottom and with a significant amount of the adjacent stamp visible at the left) with two strikes of the small Mobile, Ala double circle CDS (date not apparent). Very Fine.
$225.00
CS04/213
4/27/2008
CSA #4 Vert Pair Stone 3 Plated as Positions 28, 38 USED (margins just in at the top center and at the left of the top stamp) tied to a small orange paper piece by the Washington, Ga CDS (date not fully apparent). Still a very attractive example of a used Stone 3 pair.
$300.00
CS04/214
6/14/2008
CSA #4 Horz Pair USED Stone 2 Plated as Positions 46-47 (4-Margin with a minor toned spot at the top center of the left stamp) with a neat town CDS not otherwise identified. Very Fine appearance.

CSA #4 Horz Strip of 3 Plated as Positiond 11-13 (4-Margin with a left sheet margin and substantial portions of the three adjacent stamps visible at the top) Full Original Gum with the usual gum cracks, creases, and toning visible only on the back. Very nice multiple.
$750.00

CS04/221
8/23/2008
CSA #4 Staggered Block of 8 Stone 2 Plated as Positions 26-28, 36-38, 46-47 UNUSED (4-Margin) No Gum with multiple faults (creases, thins, toning, you name it) but the block still is very presentable. Large multiples of the stone lithograph stamps in any condition are not common.
$400.00
CS4-4

CSA #4 UNUSED Stone 2 Block of 4 with full OG Hinged. Margin is in just a bit at the bottom. Very attractive block and plated as Postions 34, 35, 44, 45.
$500.00

CSA #5

CS0541

CSA #5 USED (4-Margin and a very nice color with just a little brownish tinge) with a very neat strike of the Warrington, Fla CDS with an AUG (1862) date. Usage is well after the fall of the Pensacola-Warrington area to the Union in MAY 1862 and represents usage from Pollard, Ala as the Warrington postmaster fled north to Pollard (just across the state line north of Pensacola) where he continued to service army mail using the Warrington, Fla postmark at least into NOV 1863. There are only a small handful of examples of the CSA #5 stamp either on or off cover showing a Florida postmark. This postmark is unusual in that the date slugs are upside down resulting in an inverted month and a large bar where one would expect to see the day and year. Unusual but not unknown as the slugs were sometimes inadvertently inverted when they were changed. The stamp itself has a few minor thins and minor creases which do not detract from an otherwise Very Fine appearance. Old prior owner's tiny handstamp on the reverse. Very scarce usage.
$1,000.00
CS0563

CSA #5 Plated as Position 41 UNUSED (4-Margin Pale Rose) No Gum and a small edge thin.
$500.00
CS0565

CSA #5 USED (4-Margin and decent color with just a little edge gum toning) tied to small piece with an excellent strike of the Warrington, Fla CDS 14 OCT (1862). Very scarce usage. Very Fine. See CS-0541 above for another example with the Warrington, Fla postmark on the 10c Rose Stamp.
$1,250.00
CS0568

CSA #5 USED (4-Margin with excellent color) withe the Little Rock, Ark small double circle CDS 21 MAY 1863. Very light vertical crease and slight edge gum toning at the lower left corner which doe not in anyway detract from an overall Very Fine appearance. This stamp showing Arkansas usage is scarce.
$750.00
CS0569
6/14/2008
CSA #5 USED (4-Margin in the standard rose color) with a neat strike of the Gordonsville, Va CDS 8 AUG 1862 Very Fine.
