COLT ARMY 1860

Colt Model 1860 Army
  • Standard Round Cylinder Model Serial #97250 (Serial Number Range 1-200500).
  • 8" Round Barrel, .44 Caliber 6 shot cylinder percussion.
  • The major handgun in use during the Civil War and the favorite sidearm of Union Officers. The Colt models had fully interchangeable parts. It was slow and somewhat time consuming to load the cylinder. But in preparation for battle, several different cylinders could be loaded and made ready. When one cylnder was emptied, it could very quickly be swapped out with a fully loaded one. But these were black powder pieces, and the firing would not be reliable if the charges where left in place for a period of time. Officers who carried these sidearms during the war would often draw the loads of unfired cylinders and freshly reload them on a daily basis.
  • Production of the Colt 1860 Army Models began in 1860 and ended in 1873.
