Sometimes covers were handcarried simply as a favor for a friend.

The 9-Star Flag is considered to be the rarest of all the regular major flag designs.

Handcarried item with personal letter from a soldier to his girlfriend back home. Savannah, Ga to Robertson, SC 4 AUG 1863. Most likely carried by an army friend of the sender going home on leave.
