CSA #8 USED (4-Margin) tied to a small piece by a full strike of the Richmond, Va CDS Powell Type 5g 3 MAY (1864) with the day logo inverted. The small piece is from a newspaper. The newspaper rate was 2c for the first 3oz. The use of this stamp on a newspaper is quite scarce. Only very few full newspapers with the stamp have survived. A very fine piece and an excellent exhibit item for the newspaper rate. PF Certificate 1987 and CSA Certificate 1998. The certificates mention slight creases which are insignificant and consistent with this being a newspaper piece. The CSA certificate mentions a pinhole. There is no pinhole, but there is a small natural paper inclusion in the middle of the stamp. Very Fine.
