| South Carolina, the first Confederate State, seceded 20 DEC 1860 and joined the CSA on 4 FEB 1861. This cover from Columbia dated 18 APR (1861) is in the US USED IN THE CSA period. Georgia, the destination of the cover, seceded 19 JAN 1861 and joined the CSA on 4 FEB 1861. Here again is a cover carried by the United States Postal Service entirely within the Confederacy. Knowledge of specific dates is extremely important in the analysis of Confederate Postal History. |
