The Bank of the State of South Carolina 25c Fractional Note 1861 Fort Sumter. The note was printed on the blank back of an 1853 obsolete note from the State Stock Bank of Tallahassee, Florida. The State Stock Bank was apprently a fraudulent bank and the State Stock Bank notes were spurious. The 1853 $5.00 State Stock Bank note is scarce in its own right. Minor period ink stain and light foxing. The 25c South Carolina note was redeemed by the State in 1880 and cut cancelled Fine+. Most unusual.
