The Bank of the State of South
Carolina 25c Fractional Note 1861.
Fort Sumter at the top. Two notes side by side from the same sheet. The
notes were printed on the blank back of an 1853 obsolete note from the
State Stock Bank of Tallahassee, Florida. The State Stock Bank was
apprently a fraudulent bank and the State Stock Bank notes were
spurious. The 1853 $5.00 State Stock Bank note is scarce in its own
right. The two Fort Sumpter fractional notes were separated but matched
perfectly and have been rejoined with nearly invisible archival tape so
that the complete Florida note on the reverse can be fully appreciated.
Minor period ink stain on the left note. The 25c South Carolina notes
were redeemed by the State in 1880 and cut cancelled Fine. Most unusual. |
