Manhattan Navy 1859
- Series 3 Serial #23414 (Serial Number Range 14500-45200).
- 5" Octagonal Barrel, .36 Caliber, 5 shot cylinder percussion.
- A very popular gun which bore a very close resemblance to the Colt Navy and Colt Pocket Models. Colt's major patents expired in 1857 thus allowing other companies to manufacture guns using similar designs.
- Manufactured 1859-1868.
- This is the only gun in my collection which can be associated with a specific Civil War soldier. It was carried by John Metcalf of Tuscaloosa, Alabama who was a 16 year old private in Company F 7th Alabama Cavalry. The gun with the original holster which has his name etched on the inside of the flap along with his tintype period image wearing his Confederate uniform was obtained by me some years ago from a family estate. He was described as 5' 8" with light hair, dark eyes, and light complexion. He survived the war and is recorded as having signed his parole at Montgomery, Alabama on 12 MAY 1865.
