MILITARY FLINTLOCK PISTOLS

Military Flintlock Pistols c1792

The pair of flintlock pistols above are a matched pair (also known as a brace) and were made for military use. The military use is confirmed by the butt hooks which allowed the brace to be carried on a crossbelt. This pair is Belgian made c1792. I acquired them in England in 1988 from a dealer who had recently purchased them from a manor house clearance sale in the Cotswolds. The pistols according to the family history were brought to England by a family member (British Officer) returning from the Napoleanic Wars where they then laid in a drawer for close to two centuries as a family war trophy before entering the collector's market.
