Beverly Preston Morriss (1822-1901), an 1849 graduate of the University of Pennsylvania Medical School, practiced medicine in Amherst County. He was from a large land owning plantation family and also owned a plantation in Amherst County ("Edloe Glades") and was the largest slave owner in the county. A short biography of Dr. Morriss accompanies the cover.
