VA3406 CSA #7 Horz Pair (4-Margin but close on the right) tied by the Richmond, VA Powell Type  6l 18 JAN (1864). Addressed to Mrs. George Cunningham, Atlanta, Ga. At the lower left in the same hand as the address in manuscript "Flag of Truce" (Civilian North-to-South Through-the-Lines). This cover comes from a correspondence that is known to have originated in Union occupied Nashville. Tenn. This would be the inner envelope with pre-affixed CSA postage. The outer envelope would have had the Union postage to the transfer point (most likely Fortress Monroe, Va) where the inner envelope containing the letter was removed and the outer envelope discarded. The cover was then taken by courier from the transfer point to Richmond where the Richmond postmark was applied and the cover then sent on to the final destination of Atlanta, Ga. There is no enclosure. Very Fine Ex-Howard Green Collection. $250.00
