CSA #1 Stone 1 two singles
(not plated) paying a double overweight rate. One stamp is dark
green and the other stamp is light green. The stamps come from two
different sheets. The dark green stamp has a pre-affixing edge nick
into the design at the top right. The light green stamp is 4-Margin.
The stamps are tied together and to the cover by the BLUE small double circle Norfolk, Va
CDS 21 APR (1862) which is 19 days prior to the fall of the city to the
Union on 10 MAY 1862. Light coarse brown paper cover addressed to Mr.
Franklin Carpenter, Greenvil(le) C.H. SC. Very clean cover and a nice
two color stamp appearance. |
