Thomas Brown Venable (1824-1893), a lawyer from Oxford NC, entered service as the Lt Col of the 24th NC Inf 7/16/1861
but was dropped at the May 1862 reorganization. He appears again as a
Major and staff officer in October 1862 (AAIG) (Assistant Adjutant and
Inspector General) on the staff of various generals for the remainder
of the war including Brig-Gen Thomas Lanier Clingman (1812-1897) in
1863. After the war, he returned to Oxford NC and practiced law. |
