CSA #1 Stone 2 (not plated) (margin touches at right) tied by the Tudor Hall, Va
CDS (date not fully apparent). Coarse brown paper cover addressed to
Mrs. William King Care Col Aug Leftwich, Lynchburg, Virginia.Since most
of the mail through Tudor Hall at this time was army related, the cover
was most likely sent by Pvt William King (1825-1885) of Co D 38th Va Battalion Heavy Artillery
home to his wife, Annie Leftwich King, who was staying with her
father Col Augustine Leftwich. Pvt King was later commissionsed
3rd Lieut 2/8/1862. After the war, he formed the tobacco company of
Leftwich and King in Lynchburg, Va. Augustine Leftwich (1794-1881) was
a veteran of the War of 1812. Very clean cover. |
