CSA #1b Stone 1 (not plated) Dark Green (4-Margin but close on the left with minor pre-affixing faults) tied by three overlapping strikes of the Yorktown, Va CDS with a NOV 1861 date. Small lady's type cover addressed to Mr. John J. Tway, Madison Ct Ho, Virginia. The 1860 census lists John J. Tway as a 20 year old teacher in Madison, Va. No record of military service as teachers were exempt from the Confederate conscription laws. Top back flap missing, staining on the back only which does not show through to the front, otherwise a very clean appearance.
