is a private unofficial use of a POD unsigned official imprint for the
Auditor's Office (AUD-03b) as
the stamp is affixed over the imprint and making the printed
"FREE" invalid. Addressed to Miss Lucy T. Braxton,
"Chericoke,"
Old Church PO, Hanover, Va. "Chericoke" is the name of a plantation
home which still stands today first built in 1767 by Carter Braxton, a
signer of the Declaration of Independence. The home was rebuilt in the
1830's. Commercial cover with a small embossed De La Rue imprint under
the top back flap. Repaired right lower corner to a very clean
appearance and a scarce use. |
