CSA #4a Stone 3 Position 12 Dark Blue (4-Margin but close at the bottom) Pen-Canceled with a numeral "5" and not tied. Certainly appears to
belong to the cover. Folded Letter Complete datelined "Buckingham Mine (Va) June 20th,
1862." The
letter is a short business letter dealing with the sale of some land.
Addressed to Mr. Edward S. Brown, Sunnyside Post Office, Cumberland
County, Va. Buckingham Mine, Va (site of a gold mine) was a listed CSA
post office in Buckingham County. Extremely obscure use as apparently
the post office was so small that the postmaster did not even
bother to put any manuscript markings on the cover. Sealed edge tear at
top center, otherwise a Very Fine appearance. |
