Very coarse brown paper cover Semi-Offical Imprint "Confederate States of America WAR DEPARTMENT Surgeon General's Office" (WD-MD-04 in the new CSA catalog) at the upper right. Addressed to Asst Surgeon Wm D. Somers, Jackson, Miss. Light central vertical file fold. Very clean cover. Dr. William D. Somers of North Carolina served the Confederacy as a staff Asst Surgeon in the Western Theater. Dr. Somers papers and letters are housed at the Duke University library.
