VA2725 CSA #12 (AD) (4-Margin) tied by a full strike of the Brownsburg, Va CDS 17 DEC. The Brownsburg, Va CDS is usually seen as a brown postmark. This example has a brownish tinge to it but appears black at first glance. The brown Brownsburg CDS may in fact be a degraded black instead of a true brown. Light brown coarse paper cover with a Military Address to Capt A. S. Bacon, Lexington, Va. Cover with minor corner wear bottom left and right but very clean with an overall Very Fine appearance.

Algenon Sidney Bacon (1815-1890) began service on 4/12/1862 as a Private in Co I 4th Va Inf. He was discharged 7/27/1862 and later commissioned 1st Lieut in Co C of the Va Rockbridge County Infantry and later promoted Captain. He was a native of  Lexington, Va and is buried there.
