CSA #11 (AD) (margin just a little irregular at the right) tied by the Meachem’s River, Va balloon CDS 10 JAN. Very coarse paper Adversity Cover made from an unused lined Ledger Page. Addressed to Rev Willam E. Judkins, Farmville, Virginia. The cover was sent by Robert Judkins (1832-1910) to his father. Robert Judkins enlisted 4/19/1861 as a private in Co E 12th Va Inf and served as a courier for recently promoted Brig-Gen JEB Stuart. Pvt Judkins was discharged for disability (poor eyesight) 4/22/1862. So at the time of this cover, Pvt Judkins had left the army. Very Fine appearance displayed with the upper left corner flapped down.
