CSA #12 (AD) (4-Margin) tied by the RED Petersburg, Va CDS 16 SEP (1864). Adversity Cover made from a printed but unused Confederate Army form. Addressed to Mr. John White, Abbeville CH, So. Carolina. Cover most likely sent by a soldier home to his father. John White of Abbeville SC had three sons of the proper age to serve in the army -- William, George, and Lemuel. Lemuel White served as a Lieutenant in Co G 20th SC Inf and could not have sent this cover as the unit was not in Petersburg in SEP 1864. So cover most likely sent by either William White or George White. As the two names are very common, unable to identify the units with which they served. Adversity use displayed flapped from the right. Very Fine.
