Stampless PAID cover with the small double circle Austin, Tex CDS 4 DEC 1862 and manuscript Paid 10. Oversized cover with State Imprint at the top right "State of Texas, Adjutant and Inspector General's Office. Official Business." (CC S-TX-02). Military address to Brig Gen Robert Bechem, 31st Brig TST (Texas State Troops), New Braunfels, Texas.
Period notation at the lower left of unknown significance but may refer
to the original contents which are no longer with the cover. Cover with
some staining at the right involving part of the imprint. Edge wear at
the top with a small edge nick at the upper left. Still a presentable
cover and a scarce Texas state imprint.
Robert Bechem (b1819 in
Prussia) is listed on the Federal Census of 1860 as a Commission
Merchant in New Braunfels, Texas. Could find no further information
about him which is strange since he was somehow appointed a
Brigadier General of Texas State Troops. Perhaps he had military
training in Prussia before he came to Texas. | $275.00
