TX425 Stampless PAID cover with a full strike of the New Braunfels, Tex CDS 7 MAY (1863) and handstamp PAID 10 Type A. Period receiving docketing on the reverse dates the cover to 1863. Very thin blue folded letter paper with the page containing the letter removed some time in the past. Addressed to Jn Twohig Esqr, San Antonio, Texas. Sealed interior split and a 13mm paper erosion (very thin paper) which does not detract from an overall extremely clean appearance.

John Twohig (1806-1891) was born in Ireland and came to Texas in 1830 and was involved in the War for Texas Independence from Mexico. He became a prominent merchant and banker. By the time of his death, he was considered to be one of the ten richest men in Texas. During the Civil War, he sold cotton to the British through Mexico.
