CSA #2 H&L (4-Margin but with pre-affixing faults) tied by the small single rim Sabine Pass, Tex
CDS 2 MAY (1862). Addressed to Mrs. Celina Duncan, Liberty, Texas.
Sabine Pass was an important military site on the Texas coast near Port
Arthur and the site of two battles (1862 and 1863) when the Union
forces attempted to invade Texas but were beaten back. Cover most
likely from a soldier in the area to his wife at home. The cover is
complete but shows light foxing, edge and corner wear, and a sealed
edge tear at the lower right. Still a presentable cover with a scarce
Texas postmark. |
