reduction at the top not affecting anything. Central vertical file fold
through the address. Period edge ink stain (fingerprint) at the upper left. Very
Presentable cover.
Robert C. Foster (1824-1879), a medical
doctor from Nashville and an 1850 graduate of the University of
Pennsylvania Medical School, entered service as a line officer as Capt
of Co C 1st Ten Inf 5/9/1861. It appears that Capt Foster's
wife was with him in Winchester at the time of this cover. He was
appointed Acting Assistant Surgeon 11/16/1862. Later in mid 1863
promoted Surgeon PACS and served the remainder of the war in various
military hospitals. After the war, he practiced medicine in Nashville
where he is buried. |
