CSA #7 (two singles) (one
stamp with a large right sheet margin is 4-Margin, the second stamp
margins are just a little irregular). The stamps are in two distinctly
different color shades showing that they came from two different
sheets. Manuscript "Due 10" indicating postage due for underpayment of the double weight rate. Manuscript postal marking at upper left "Arcadia, Tenn March 11th" (most
likely 1864). Very obscure Tennessee CSA use from Sullivan County in
the extreme northeastern part of Tennessee which was strongly Unionist
in sympathies. Orange paper cover addressed to Miss Carrie
Stokely, Madisonville, Tenn. Part of top back flap missing and minor
edge repairs at the top. Very clean appearing cover. Ex-Gallagher. |
