TN445 Stampless PAID cover with a partial strike of the RED Clarksville, Ten CDS and handstamp BLUE PAID 5 Type B 23 DEC (1861). The PAID handstamp overlaps part of the CDS. Nice two color strikes of the postal markings. Addressed to Mrs James N. LeConte, Macon, Bibb County, Georgia. Part of top back flap missing, otherwise a very clean cover.

James Nisbet LeConte MD (1834-1862) obtained his medical degree from the Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia in 1856. He married  Mary B. Gordon (1836-1903) from Columbia, Ten in 1858.  He died in July 1862 of tuberculosis. Both he and his wife are buried in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Macon, Georgia.
