TN421 Stampless Soldier's DUE cover with the Chattanooga, Ten CDS and Arc DUE 10 handstamp Type D 9 JAN (1864) Chattanooga Army of Tennessee "Rover" postmark (CC ATN-01).  Addressed to Mrs. M. A. McCorkle, Washington, Wilkes Co., Georgia, in care of Dr. Ficklein. Endorsed at upper left "Private in Co H 37th Regt Geo Vols." Very Fine. Ex-Cate Collection.

The cover was sent by Pvt John McCorkle (1824-1865) to his wife. Pvt McCorkle enlisted in Co H 37th Ga Inf 8/10/1863. That dates this cover to JAN 1864 as a Chattanooga "Rover" postal use. Pvt McCorkle is listed as captured as a POW near Nashville on 12/16/1864 and confined at Camp Douglas, Illinois, near Chicago. He died of pneumonia while a POW 2/6/1865 and is buried in the Camp Douglas Confederate Cemetery.
