wife. Pvt McCorkle enlisted in Co H 37th
Ga Inf
8/10/1863. That dates this cover to JAN 1864 as a Chattanooga "Rover"
postal use. Pvt McCorkle is listed as captured as a POW near Nashville
on 12/16/1864 and confined at Camp Douglas, Illinois, near Chicago. He
died of pneumonia while a POW 2/6/1865 and is buried in the Camp
Douglas Confederate Cemetery. |
