SC887 Turned Cover -- First Use (inside) Handcarried outside the Postal System undated to Dr. M. E. Carrere, Charleston SC. Receiving docketing at the top “From My Mother.” Maynard Edward Carrere (1813-1879), a Charleston native and a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania Medical School, was a prominent physician and surgeon in Charleston. During the war, he was a volunteer surgeon at the Charleston Hospital. Second Use (outside) CSA #12 (KB) (4-Margin) tied by the BLUE Columbia SC CDS (the date is weak but appears to be in MAR 1865) addressed to Mr. Solomon Legare, a relative of Dr. Carrere’s first wife Mary Wilkinson Legare (d1855). Very clean cover and complete. $200.00
