Rev
Stephen Elliott (1804-1866) was a South Carolina Episcopal priest and
rector of the large South Carolina St Bartholomew's Parish among
others. Rev Elliott was the father of CSA Brigadier General Stephen
Elliott Jr (1830-1866). General Elliott served throughout the war and
was promoted Brigadier General in 1864. He was wounded twice (Battle of
the Crater at the Siege of Petersburg and the Battle of Bentonville).
He died as a direct result of his wounds in 1866. The handwriting on
the cover is not that of General Elliott. |
