Lazarus Correspondence with Military Address to Edgar M. Lazarus Esq, Major Manigault, S C Siege Train, James Island (Confederate Artillery defending Charleston Harbor). Very clean cover.

Edward Marx Lazarus (1838-1884), a member of a very prominent Charleston Jewish family, served with the Siege Train during the war. After the war, he relocated to Baltimore and successfully engaged in business.

Edward Manigault (1816-1875) of the prominent South Carolina Colonial Manigault Family, commanded a unit of the Siege Train Artillery. He kept a detailed diary of his time with the Siege Train which has been published.
