SC1281 Turned Wallpaper Cover --

First Use (inside) -- Partial Newberry SC CDS with an 1864 date (stamp is missing but looks to have been either a #11 or #12) addressed to Thomsons Creek, Spartanburg SC.

Second Use (outside) -- Stampless cover with "Thompsons Creek SC March 17 1864 Paid 10" postal markings all in manuscript. Addressed to Elizabeth Butler, Newberry CH SC. With the cover is a short original letter between two sisters containing only some family news. Very obscure postal use from the Spartanburgh District with confusion in the spelling. The postal manuscript second use clearly says "Thompsons Creek." The address of the first use is clearly "Thomsons Creek." The List of USA Post Offices in 1862 and Appleton's 1863 both list the spelling as "Thomason's Creek" which most likely is the correct spelling recognized by the USPOD. This post office is not listed in the current CSA Catalog. I was unable to find another example of this manuscript postal use. So take your pick on the spelling.

In addition, this is a Wallpaper Adversity Cover with a light blue geometric type pattern which is a little difficult to see but is there nevertheless. The cover has not been cut for display as the second use is shown with the wallpaper design on the outside of the cover after it was turned. Cover shows some wear but is still presentable. Turned wallpaper covers are not commonly seen. Ex-Richard Murphy Collection.
