CSA #11 (AD) tied by the manuscript "Shelton (SC) July 19 (1864)" postal marking. Full Military Address to A. T. Beam, Company F, 23rd Regiment SCV, Petersburg, Virginia in Care of Col H. J. Benbow, Evans Brigade. Very small but complete cover Very Fine. Ex-Richard Murphy Collection. A. T. Beam is recorded as enlisting as a private 3/1/1863 in Wilmington NC 3/1/1863 and served in Co F 23rd SC Inf. How he came to enlist in Wilmington NC in a SC unit is not explained. He is reported as Killed-in-Action 7/30/1864 at the Battle of the Crater during the Siege of Petersburg. This cover is dated only 11 days before he was killed. No further information as South Carolina Civil War military records are very incomplete.
