Advertising Cover with a small printed corner card at the upper left "From People's Bank, So. Ca." and a pre-printed address to Merchants Bank, Cheraw, So. Ca. The pre-printed address is lined through. "Box 347" in pencil at lower left of unknown significance. Short original one page business letter included with the cover which dates the cover to 1862. Small minor back flap opening tears including a small top center edge tear sealed with archival tape, and an opening tear only on the back flap not sealed, otherwise Very Fine. Ex-Richard Murphy Collection.

Andrew Baxter Springs (1819-1886) was a wealthy planter in the York District near Fort Mill SC. Of note is that there is no post office named Springfield listed in the York District or anywhere else in South Carolina at this time. "Springfield" was the name of the Springs plantation. Springs must have been very prominent to have the cover addressed directly to his plantation instead of to a near-by post office.
