Lieut (later Capt in 1864) Duncan Green Campbell (1835-1889), the sender of this cover to his wife, was an engineering officer on the staff of several generals during the war including Smith, Kershaw, McLaws, and Beauregard. Capt Campbell's father, John Archibald Campbell (1811-1899), was an Associate Justice of the US Supreme Court 1853-1861 and Confederate Assistant Secretary of War (1862-1865). After the war, he practiced law in New Orleans with his father prior to relocating to a farm in Maryland in 1880.		 $100.00
