Second Cover - CSA #7 Horz Pair (4-Margin) barely tied at the top by the small double circle Camden SC CDS with a JUN 1863 date. Addressed to Doct James S. Milling, Collinsburgh, Bossier Parish, La. Minor reduction at the right, otherwise Very Fine.

James S. Milling (1831-1895) was a physician and planter in the Fairfield District of South Carolina. In 1859, he relocated his slaves to a plantation in Bossier Parish, Louisiana, with his wife and family remaining in South Carolina and not joining him in Louisiana until after the war in 1866. His gravesite says he had service in Co B 28th La Inf (Company B "Mark's Guards" was recruited from Bossier Parish), but I can find no record of this service. Many of Dr Milling's papers and letters are archived at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and others are archived at Louisiana State University.
