Cover handcarried outside the postal system with no postal markings and not dated. Addressed simply to Wm Birnie Esq, Greenville (SC). Wallpaper Adversity cover with a nice floral design in blue, white, and shades of brown displayed flapped over from the left. Very Fine. The William Birnie (1782-1865) Correspondence is well-known and well-documented. William Birnie was a prominent Charleston Merchant. Early in the war, he relocated from Charleston to Greenville because Greenville was a safer location. That dates the cover to the Confederate period.
