Cover handcarried outside the postal system with no postal markings. Addressed to Mrs Josiah Obear, Winnsboro SC. "Kindness of Mr. Boylston" at lower left identifies the one who carried the letter privately. Receiving docketing at the left dates the cover to Sept 13th 1864. Wallpaper Adversity cover with a simple geometric lined design in brown displayed flapped bown from the top. Very Fine. Rev Josiah Obear (1810-1882) was an Episcopal priest at St John's Episcopal Church in Winnsboro since 1841. He married his wife, Julia Saffery Obear (1813-1901) in 1841.
