SC1250 CSA #12 (AD) (margin just a little irregular on the right) pen-canceled and not tied. Manuscript "Pacolet Mills (SC) Feb 4 (1864)" to the right. Full Military Address to Capt J. W. McLure, Q. M. (Quartermaster) Palmetto Sharpshooters, Genl Jenkins Brigade, Hoods Division, Longstreets Corp, Morristown, Ten. Wallpaper Adversity Cover with a very flashy Blue and Gray floral design folded out for display. Edge wear and a little nibbling evident at the left. Small reduction at the right just into the address. Very presentable wallpaper cover with a very nice full military address that names three Generals.

John William McLure (1831-1916), a farmer and businessman from Pacolet Milles SC attended the University of Virginia but did not graduate, entered service as 2nd Lieut Co G 5th SC Inf 4/12/1861 and transferred to Co M SC Palmetto Sharpshooters 4/23/1862. On 6/1/1862, he was promoted Captain and assigned as the regimental Assistant Quartermaster of the SC Palmetto Sharpshooters. On detached service as AQM at the divisional level of Field's Division, Longstreet's Corps ANV 9/15/1864. No further record. After the war he was a successful merchant in Union SC. His 1916 obituary refers to him as a Major in Confederate service, but there is no record of a Major's promotion.
