SC1200 Turned Cover -- First Use: Stampless CSA #123xu1 Barnwell CH (Court House) SC PAID 5 Provisional (not dated) to D. W. Holsenbeck Esq, Hillsboro, Georgia. Second Use: Stampless “Hillsboro, Ga Paid 10 Dec 23rd (1862)” all in manuscript addressed to W. J. Brookes, Esq, Barnwell CH SC. The cover has been refolded and resealed so that the first use, which is a very scarce provisional, is the use that is displayed. According to a note on the back by Molesworth, this is one of only three known covers bearing the Barnwell CH SC provisional markings, but that cannot be currently correct. There are most likely a few more than that. See SC995 and NE1 for two additional examples of the Barnwell CH SC Provisional on this website. All the known Barnwell Court House provisional covers are addressed and have only the provisional marks and no postmark. With this cover is the original letter from the second use datelined "Jasper County Ga December 22nd 1862." The letter concerns shoes for Negro slaves and some other matters. Cover shows just a little light wear and some foxing but still retains a Very Fine appearance. CSA Certificate 2002. $2,000.00
