SC1179 Turned Cover -- First Use (inside): CSA #11a Milky Blue (AD) (4-Margin) tied by a partial strike of the small double circle Camden SC CDS (date not apparent). Addressed to Revd Stephen Elliott, Pocotaligo SC. Second Use (outside): stampless with the small double circle Camden SC CDS with a JUL date. Addressed locally to Mrs. S. G. Elliott, Camden SC (Drop Letter). No "PAID" notation but there is a manuscript "Chg Bk of C" (Charge Bank of Camden) indicating that the drop letter postage was paid. Unusual not to have an actual "PAID" notation on the cover but did occasionally occur on local drop letters as drop letters did not travel to another post office. Inside stamp displayed by flapping down the upper left corner. Molesworth note on the back. Very clean cover.

Revd Stephen Elliott (1804-1866) was a South Carolina Episcopal priest and rector of the large South Carolina St Bartholomew's Parish among others. Sarah Gibbs Elliott (1811-1891) of the prominent Charleston DeSaussure family was Revd Elliott's second wife. Revd Elliott was the father of CSA Brigadier General Stephen Elliott Jr (1830-1866). General Elliott served throughout the war and was promoted Brigadier General in 1864. He was wounded twice (Battle of the Crater at the Siege of Petersburg and the Battle of Bentonville). He died as a direct result of his wounds in 1866. The handwriting on the cover is not that of General Elliott.
