Stampless Soldier's Due 5 cover with the Hardeeville SC CDS and handstamp Arc DUE 5 Type C 26 MAY 1862. Coarse brown paper cover addressed to Dr. H. H. Clarke, Ridgeway Depot, Fairfield Dist SC. Endorsed at left "J. C. C. 15 Regt SCV." Ridgeway was a station on the Charlotte and South Carolina Railroad. Top back flap missing, otherwise Very Fine. Ex-Brian Green. Henry Harrison Clarke (1813-1863) was a physician as well as a wealthy planter in the South Carolina Fairfield District. "JCC" in the endorsement was his son, James Caleb Clarke (1839-1862), killed at the Battle of Boonesboro, Maryland (South Mountain) 9/14/1862.
