SC1163 CSA #7 Vert Pair affixed sideways (4-Margin with the bottom stamp showing the filled-in frame at the bottom variety CC 7-R-v2) tied by a full excellent strike of the Pocotaglio SC CDS 3 AUG (1863). Addressed to Revd J. S. Murray, Anderson, So. Rev John Scott Murray (1822-1892) was the pastor of the First Baptist Church in Anderson So. Ca. Period receiving docketing at the left dates the cover to 1863 and indicates the sender was one Preston Earle. Pencil notation at the top right "Prison Letter" which appears to be period. Not sure what this refers to as there is no indication that the cover is from a prison. Perhaps the sender was in jail. No way to know. Some pencil notations on the reverse which appear to be period and referring to the contents of the original letter which is no longer with the cover. Minor light edge staining at the bottom, otherwise Very Fine.  Ex-Richard Hall. $175.00
