James Clement Furman (1809-1891) was the son of Dr. Richard Furman, a
founder of
Furman University. Rev James Furman served for many
years as President
of the
University. He was also involved in politics and was appointed as one
of the Greenville delgates to the South Carolina Secession Convention
in 1860 and was one of the signers of the Ordinance of Secession. |
