Joseph Abney (1819-1870) was first Captain of Co A 22nd SC Inf and then Colonel of the regiment until he was dropped in May 1862. Later he was Major of the 1st Batt SC Sharpshooters and then Major of the 27th SC Inf. He was severely wounded at Drewery's Bluff in May 1864 and died as a direct result of his wounds in 1870. |
