Wier Boyd (1820-1893) was a very prominent citizen of Lumpkin County, Ga,. He was a lawyer who served multiple times in the Georgia State Legislature and the Georgia State Senate. During the war, he served as the Colonel of the 52nd Ga Inf until he contracted Typhoid which ended his service. His son, Captain Augustus Boyd (age 18) of the same unit, was killed at Vicksburg in May 1863.
