SC1122 CSA #11c (AD) Greenish-Blue (4-Margin) tied by the BLUE Columbia SC CDS 25 FEB. Addressed to Mrs. J. Devereux, Raleigh, North Carolina. Commercially made lady's stationery with embossed flowers on the back flap. Small sealed edge tear at the upper left corner, otherwise Very Fine.

The addressee was Margaret Lane Mordecai Devereux (1825-1910). The Mordecai family was a very prominent Jewish family in Raleigh NC. She was the wife of Major John Devereaux (1819-1893), a North Carolina planter who served as the Chief Quartermaster of the State of North Carolina during the war. Their eldest son, Thomas Pollack Devereux (1845-1913), enlisted as a private in Co D 43rd NC Inf in January 1864. The sender of this cover is unidentified.
