CSA #11c (AD) Greenish Blue (margin just touches at left) tied by the Bennettsville SC CDS 9 SEP. Addressed to Col James H. Witherspoon, Georgetown SC. Period [pencil docketing at left indicates the cover was sent by some named "Dudley." This appears to have been once a folded letter written on an unused ledger page. The part with the letter has been cut away so that this is now mostly a front with a sealed edge tear at the left center. Very clean. James Hervey Witherspoon (1810-1865) was a prominent South Carolina politician who served in the First Confederate Congress as a representative from South Carolina. He also served as Colonel of the 8th SC State Reserve Troops.
