SC1017 CSA #5 Position 4 (catalog listed "ZEN" variety CC 5-v1) (4-Margin but a l;ittle close at the lower left and a decent color) tied by a somewhat weak but recognizable strike of the RED Camden SC CDS with a SEP (1862) date. Addressed to Capt Louis D. DeSaussure, Charleston SC. Capt Louis Daniel DeSaussure (1824-1888) of the prominent Charleston DeSaussure family was a staff officer during the war. At the time of this cover, he was the Inspector of Outposts in South Carolina. He later served on the staffs of various CSA generals including Walker, Elliottt, and Hagood. Very small but very clean commercially made pink lady's cover. Backflap opening tears but otherwise Very Fine. $750.00
