RR84 CSA #6 Vertical Pair affixed sideways (4-Margin) tied by a very bold and complete and exceptionally fine strike of the Bristol V & T RR (Virginia and Tennessee Railroad) dateless postmark. The Bristol railroad postmark is very rarely seen this nice. Addressed to Mrs. C. A.  Calhoun, Alleghany Springs, Montgomery Co., Va. Very Fine. Ex-Brian Green, Ex-Kilbourne, Ex-Hannen CSA Railroad Collection.

The sender of this cover was Capt Charles A. Calhoun to his wife in early 1864. He was serving as Captain of Co A 21st Va Cav beginning in January 1864. This unit in early 1864 was assigned to the Department of East Tennesee. In December 1864, Capt Calhoun was certified unfit for military service due to heath reasons and resigned from the service. No additional information available as he does not appear on the Federal Censuses of 1860 or 1870.
